Loss, Grief, Bereavement Support Group

The Friars of St. Francis Retreat House (SFRH) are pleased to add to the support groups held in caravaggio16the Lehigh Valley. This support group is for people experiencing grief due to loss, trauma, and/or death. It is an effort, on the part of the Franciscan Friars and Retreat Team of SFRH, to assist in helping people in the surrounding community to heal, be healthy, and to ultimately reach peace.
We human beings often struggle with loss—such as the loss of a loved one, a job, a relocation, etc. It may be the human experience of a graduation or a wedding, and having to say good-bye to someone we love as they start a new life. This may be the root cause of the grief. Grief can be brought on when someone near to us enters the military and, perhaps, goes off to war; or maybe one has been ravaged by a disaster such as Hurricane Katrina (natural) or ”911” (man made).
A parent who loses a child through ectopic pregnancy, miscarriage, abortion, still birth, sudden infant death (SIDS), or at any time during the process of raising a child is generally heart-broken. As humans it is natural, whether we like it or not, to grow-up with the idea we will lose our parent(s) someday…it is not at all natural to think we will outlive our child.
Divorce; Loss of a body part or function, an acute or chronic disease, a terminal illness are all experiences which can account for grief.
People who lose a pet due to the pet running away, getting lost, or dying are very prone to experience grief.
We are all human and, as such, we all experience sadness and grief for numerous reasons throughout our lives. Whatever the loss, this support group is offered with the intention of bringing people together, helping them through the process of grieving in order to facilitate healing and to eventually arrive at peace.
The group is for adults experiencing any of the above. People of all faiths are welcome. Providing this support group is one more venue the Friars provide in order to help people in the community experience the healing power of God in their lives.
